Chick-fil-A Opens New Spot at Liberty Station
San Diego Welcomes Another Chick-fil-A
Exciting news for chicken lovers in San Diego! On Thursday, March 6, a brand new Chick-fil-A restaurant started serving yummy meals at Liberty Station. The brains behind this setup is Matt Hughes, a long-term Chick-fil-A enthusiast and business leader. He has scooped up an opportunity to operate this new location at 2401 Truxtun Road.
Visitors can pop in to enjoy their chicken favorites from early morning at 6:30 a.m until 9 p.m., every Monday through Saturday. Whether you want to sit down and eat, grab something quickly, or get your meal delivered, this place covers all bases.
Matt Hughes: From Team Member to Operator
Hughes isn’t new to Chick-fil-A’s family. His journey started in high school, working as a team member in his hometown near Atlanta. His love for the job grew, pushing him to aim bigger – he wanted to lead. This led him to join Chick-fil-A’s Leadership Development Program, helping with launching several new restaurants along the West Coast.
In 2006, Hughes brought Chick-fil-A to San Diego with the opening of the Chick-fil-A Sports Arena. Now, nearly two decades later, he’s still committed. Hughes and his family, including his wife Jessica and their four kids, are proud San Diegans.
Hughes’s vision is pretty clear. “The vision for our new restaurant is to provide a meaningful employment experience and unmatched care for our community,” he shares. For Hughes, it’s not just about serving food; it’s about creating opportunities and fostering growth both inside and outside the restaurant walls.
A Growing Chick-fil-A Community
With the new Liberty Station restaurant, there are now over 20 Chick-fil-A spots in the San Diego area. Each restaurant is a mini community hub, managed by entrepreneurs like Hughes, who are deeply involved in the nitty-gritty of everyday operations.
Hughes is in charge of hiring and training new team members, serving customers, and connecting with local groups and businesses. His active involvement helps tailor local philanthropic activities to the needs of the San Diego community. Speaking of support, Hughes plans to bring on 60 new full- and part-time team members, bumping his workforce to about 150 across his two restaurants.
Commitment to the Community
Chick-fil-A stands strong in its philosophy to contribute to more than just the dining scene. The franchise encourages local operators to support their areas with a strong focus on important issues like hunger and education.
To celebrate the opening of the new location, Chick-fil-A, Inc. has made a $25,000 donation to Feeding America. This generous offer supports Feeding San Diego, a local food bank, in its efforts to combat hunger.
Additionally, Hughes’s restaurant will join the Chick-fil-A Shared Table program. This initiative aims to help curb food wastage by donating unused food to local nonprofits in need. Remarkably, this initiative has helped create over 35 million meals across the U.S. and Canada.
Moreover, as a nod to local heroes making a difference in the community, Chick-fil-A Liberty Station is giving away free chicken entrées for a year to 100 deserving individuals.
With the new Chick-fil-A at Liberty Station, San Diego gains another spot for delicious food and community connection. It’s more than just a restaurant; it’s a place where leadership and generosity meet at the table. Thanks to Matt Hughes and his team, the spirit of giving and growth continues to thrive in the heart of San Diego.
